Manor Village, located in Calgary, Alberta, added two twelve-storey apartment towers to its growing list of retirement life centers. The retirement complex overlooks Fish Creek Park and houses the new innovative Gordie Howe Centre for Dementia Care. The Centre will include research initiatives, educational programs for the public, and support for those affected by Dementia.
Since there was only one crane on site, having an efficient slab formwork system would be a huge factor in meeting the tight construction schedule.
Elite Formwork Inc.
By integrating PERI formwork systems through-out this project. The formwork was simplified for ease of construction. With all site crew familiar with PERI, setup, forming and demobilizing, was completed with unprecedented cost effectiveness.
Elite Formwork, having vast experience in Calgary as a high-rise structural concrete contractor, elected to use PERI Formwork Systems to assist in the construction of the new towers.
SKYTABLE was chosen due to the system’s ability to accommodate large (up to 150 m²) table sizes. Larger tables, in comparison with more traditional slab table systems, result in larger areas of formwork being lifted at one time, meaning there is less demand for crane time.
Elite‘s familiarity with PERI SKYTABLE made the assembly procedure a quick process. Once on site, SKYTABLE Truss elements were simply linked together with pins to create the desired length (up to 24.4m can assembled). Fixed to truss elements with simple connections, GT24 Girders allowed for varying table widths to accommodate the building structure slab edges.
Attaching the Quick Lowering Device STQ to the Truss profile connection points, allowed MULTIPROP shoring posts to be fixed to the Lowering Device STQ as support posts. This provided a simple method for releasing high prop loads after concreting, a simple movement of the inclusive red handle, the Quick Lowering Device STQ is unlocked and the SKYTABLE is lowered by 20mm off the concrete slab. Providing space to attach the Lifting Head to the Lifting Traverse.
PERI SKYTABLE moving procedure along with the ability to fly tables with a single lift, reduced dependency on the crane, further optimizing crane usage on site by allowing the contractor to quickly shift focus between the two towers
